# Set bone visibility

> This page explains how to hide and show bones during an animation.

`BP_AnimNotify_SetBoneVisibility` hides or unhides a bone on the mesh playing the animation. This is useful when a magazine or another mesh part must disappear during an action.

## Add it to an animation

<ol><li>Open the Animation Sequence or Montage used by the relevant mesh.</li>
<li>Right-click a notify track at the desired frame and choose `BP_AnimNotify_SetBoneVisibility` from **Add Notify**.</li>
<li>Select the notify and configure its exposed settings in **Details**.</li>
<li>Preview the timing, then test the action in play with the owning actor present.</li></ol>

## Example: hide an item part

On a copied item animation, choose a bone from that item’s Skeleton and hide it at the required frame. Add a matching show event when it returns. Check the result on the equipped item, including interruption and holstering.

## Settings

<table><thead><tr><th>Property</th><th>Use</th></tr></thead>
<tbody><tr><td>`MagBoneName`</td><td>Bone to hide or show on the animated mesh.</td></tr>
<tr><td>`Hide`</td><td>Enabled calls `Hide Bone by Name`; disabled calls `Un Hide Bone by Name`.</td></tr></tbody></table>

The notify operates on `MeshComp`, the mesh playing the animation. It does not search for another weapon or character mesh.

Visibility persists after the notify fires. Add a matching show notify, and restore visibility when an interrupted action needs cleanup.

BP\_AnimNotify\_SetBoneVisibility acts on the mesh playing the animation.
