# IK motion

> This page explains how to adjust IK motions for aiming, fire modes, and ready poses.

Some actions need a small extra movement of the hands and held item, such as raising it into a ready pose. An IK motion adds this movement over the current animation using position and rotation curves.

The character's `AC_IKMotionPlayer` plays the curves from a `DA_IKMotion` asset. An item or character action starts playback, and the procedural animation graph applies the resulting `IKMotion` transform to the pose.

## Playback

Call `Play(NewMotion)` on the character's motion player once when an action begins. The component caches the current motion, resets playback, and advances the new asset. Calling `Play` every frame restarts it every frame.

The animation graph applies the resulting `IKMotion` transform. The asset defines the motion; your item or character decides when to play it.

## Survival motion assets

Look in `Blueprints/AdditiveMotions` for `IK_Ads` and `IK_FireMode`. Duplicate a motion into your own folder, reduce its `RotationScale`, and assign the copy to the matching action in your animation settings to compare the result.
Action event → `AC_IKMotionPlayer.Play` → position/rotation curves → `IKMotion` → procedural pose.
